Commission · Service 01
A commission service for individual illustrations or small series — from the first conversation through to final scalable delivery, at a pace that allows careful decisions.
The Promise
Precision of line
Vector work scales without compromise — from screen to billboard, the clarity holds.
Considered tonal direction
Each piece begins with a conversation about mood, context, and where the work will eventually live.
Formats built to last
Deliverables arrive in scalable formats, labelled and ready for use across your existing materials.
The Challenge
Stock libraries offer breadth, but rarely the specific tone a project calls for. Generic illustration can flatten the reading experience rather than deepen it. And commissioning through the wrong channel often means navigating portfolios that don't quite match, or timelines that don't account for the back-and-forth that careful work requires.
The result is a kind of visual compromise — work that technically functions but doesn't quite belong to the project it's meant to serve. That gap is what a properly scoped commission can close.
The Approach
We work in a refined vector style informed by Japanese graphic traditions — clean geometry, considered use of negative space, and a sensitivity to how line weight carries visual weight. The approach adapts to subject and context rather than imposing a single look across every project.
Suitable for editorial features, packaging, and quieter brand assets where over-decorated illustration would distract. We take on individual pieces as well as small series where visual continuity across the set is part of the scope.
The Journey
01
Opening Conversation
We discuss the subject, intended placement, and tonal direction. No intake form — a straightforward exchange that lets both sides understand the shape of the project.
02
Sketch Drafts
Early-stage sketches show compositional thinking before commitment to final execution. A chance to redirect if the initial reading differs from what you had in mind.
03
Revision Rounds
Revision rounds are agreed at the start and proceed at a measured pace. Feedback is handled in writing, keeping the record clear and the changes precise.
04
Final Delivery
Scalable formats, organised and labelled. If the engagement calls for source files, those are included with the delivery pack.

What's Included
Suitable For
Final investment is confirmed following the initial conversation, once the scope is defined. Projects with expanded series requirements or additional usage rights are scoped individually.
Methodology
Week 1
Brief and Sketches
Conversation, direction-setting, and initial compositional sketches delivered for review.
Week 2 – 3
Execution and Revisions
Full vector rendering with agreed revision rounds worked through in writing.
Week 3 – 4
Final Delivery
Organised deliverable pack in all agreed formats, ready for immediate use.
Timelines reflect typical single-illustration engagements. Small series of two to four pieces run across a similar duration, with sequential delivery where the brief allows it. Scope and pacing are confirmed in writing before work begins.
Assurance
Revision rounds agreed upfront
The number of revision rounds is defined before the engagement begins — no ambiguity about what's included, and no pressure to accept work that doesn't match the brief.
Written brief and sign-off
The brief is confirmed in writing before sketch drafts begin. Any direction changes are handled as part of the agreed revision structure.
No-obligation initial conversation
The first exchange costs nothing. If the project scope doesn't fit what we do, we'll say so plainly — no obligation on either side.
Steady pace throughout
We don't compress the process when a timeline tightens. If a project requires a different pace than what we typically offer, we'll address that in the opening conversation.
Next Steps
Step 01
Send a short note
Describe the project briefly — what it's for, the rough scope, and any timing considerations you're working around.
Step 02
We respond within two days
If the project fits what we do, we'll suggest a short conversation to explore it properly. No lengthy intake questionnaires.
Step 03
Scope and brief confirmed
Once we've spoken, a written brief and timeline are agreed before any work begins. From that point, the process runs calmly and on schedule.
Commission an Illustration
Commissions start at ¥24,000. The engagement spans two to four weeks, depending on scope. It begins with a conversation — no forms, no commitments.
